LADPW, MLK Child & Family Well-Being Center (CFWB)
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Works (LADPW) was formed in 1985 is responsible for delivering regional public services that improve the quality of life for more than 10 million people in Los Angeles County. LADPW recently broke ground on this three-story modular building that will cater to pediatrics, autism wellness, and family justice. The ground floor pediatric facility will replace trailers that currently service this community center, which sees over 5,000 referrals annually. The second floor will house an autism wellness center, offering medical and behavioral health services for special needs individuals. The third floor will house multiple agencies addressing the needs of individuals affected by domestic and family violence.

City of Roseville, 2018 Roller Compacted Concrete Project
Twining developed and peer reviewed technical specifications (special provisions) for construction of various types of concrete pavements, for both city streets and highways. Our team will be implementing this paving technique to a number of residential streets in Roseville including Washington Boulevard, Pleasant Grove, and Westpark Phase 4.

Seaside Way Pedestrian Bridge
The Seaside Way Pedestrian Bridge mimics a breaking wave in design and is illuminated by thousands of customizable LED lights, with nearly 100 downlights and landscaping lights, and an additional 70 LEDs along the underbelly of the structure. The elevated bridge carries pedestrians east above Seaside Way to the Terrace Plaza, significantly reducing the walking time between locations. Its lighted canopy produces a starry sky effect with custom lighting capabilities.

City of Sacramento, Florin Pump Station Improvements
The Florin Pump Station was originally constructed in 1970. This project involved the installation of an additional natural gas engine-driven pump, control system and uninterruptible power supply upgrades within the existing capacity of the Florin Reservoir Pump Station to increase redundancy, reliability, and flexibility of the pump station, while also improving emergency egress through the installation of a new stair enclosure with an exhaust fan (proposed project).

Geotechnical Engineering and Fault Study at a Military Base
Twining provided Geotechnical Investigations and a Fault Investigation for proposed critical developments at a military base in a seismically-active region of California. The investigations were governed by and ultimately approved by NAVFAC. The proposed project consists of six new structures (including aircraft and weapons hangars, air traffic control tower, and a fire station) with appurtenant improvements including aircraft pavements and aprons, vehicle-trafficked pavements, and heavily-loaded slabs on grade. Based on our analyses, we provided various options for foundation design and provided recommendations for set backs from existing nearby faults.

This project consists of the renovation and expansion of the existing 15,798-square-foot historic courthouse located in the City of Willows. The existing courthouse was constructed in 1894 and will be expanded from a one-courtroom facility, to a three-courtroom facility, adding over 20,000-square-feet. Specific project details include:

LADWP, Silver Lake Reservoir Complex Storage Replacement
The Silver Lake Reservoir Complex (SLRC) Bypass Project is part of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) compliance efforts to address updated State and Federal drinking water quality regulations. These regulations required the LADWP to cover treated water stored in its open reservoirs.

Graham Hill WTP Concrete Reservoir
As the existing four post-tensioned concrete tanks reach the end of their service life, the City of Santa Cruz has decided to replace the tanks as well as their related equipment, piping, and other appurtenances. Also included in this project is the construction of a new electrical building, several retaining walls, and the widening of the access roadway.

County of Ventura, Todd Road Jail Health and Programing Unit
The new Ventura County Todd Road Jail Health and Programing Unit (TRJHPU) will be built on a site adjacent to the existing Ventura County Todd Road Jail facility. The 64-bed expansion offers a more holistic approach to treatment for those inmate-patients with medical/mental health needs. The primary focus is treatment in a therapeutic health care environment with a custody overlay.

Green Tree Boulevard, Joint Venture Project between SBCTA, City of Victorville, and the Town of Apple Valley
The $46.8-dollar joint SBCTA, City of Victorville, and Town of Apple Valley project is a critical component of the region’s High Desert Corridor effort and will extend Green Tree Boulevard to provide an additional east-west route to Interstate 15 via the Yucca Loma Bridge. A vital element of this project is the construction of a 600-foot-long bridge over two natural drainage courses and the BNSF Railroad, which will make it the longest bridge in Victorville.

City of San Diego, North City Water Reclamation Plant Expansion
The City of San Diego is currently expanding the existing plant from producing 30-million gallons per day (mgd) to producing 50 mgd of recycled water (water for uses other than drinking). The expansion enables industries like agriculture, landscaping, and industrial manufacturing to use the recycled water for their needs, which leaves more drinking water available for the community.

This project is comprised of the removal and replacement of existing 6-inch or 8-inch sewer mains with 8-inch sewer mains using pipe reaming, pipe bursting, horizontal directional drilling (HDD), and open cut pipe replacement construction methods, sewer lateral reconnections & replacement, sewer manhole reconnections, cleanout and/or backflow prevention devices, sewer manhole installations and, surface restoration, traffic control, mobilization, manhole modifications, sewage bypassing, and all other work.

City of Millbrae, Recreation Center
The Millbrae Recreation Center project consisted of the construction of new 23,500 square foot building with approximately three acres of sitework. Plans included a two-story structure to accommodate a 300-guest community room with a full-service kitchen, lobby, staff area, game room, fitness and wellness studio, preschool, senior lounges, classrooms, and conference rooms.

County of Ventura, Fillmore Library Addition
The Ventura County Fillmore library expansion project design includes a $1.5 million, 2,200 square-foot addition to the existing Fillmore Library. The addition is to include a community meeting room, reading lounge, two study rooms and classroom and two new ADA compliant restrooms.

Ocean Beach Pier Rehabilitation/Service Life Modeling
The City of San Diego requested a structural condition assessment of the Ocean Beach Pier. This consisted of inspection and completely evaluating the structural deterioration of the Ocean Beach Pier by means of visual inspection and testing with underwater and above water inspections to observe damage and deterioration to the structural components of the pier.

Santa Rosa Criminal Courthouse
The new $152 million courthouse features 15 courtrooms and encompasses 169,147-square-feet. It will be six stories above ground and include a basement level. The new courthouse replaces the existing courthouse and resolve operational efficiencies and ongoing savings through consolidation of current court services.

Chapman University, Village Park Orchards (VPO) Packing House
Twining was asked by Structural Focus on behalf of Chapman University to provide a condition assessment and material testing program for the site of an upcoming University project. The University planned to convert an existing packing house into dance studios and our program would provide the University and Structural Focus (the structural engineer of record) with data to inform strengthening options for the proposed renovations.
