Guest Blog: CalAPA’s Fall Asphalt Pavement Conference & Equipment Expo

Registration is now open for the CalAPA Fall Asphalt Pavement Conference & Equipment Expo Oct. 28-29 in Sacramento. The premier event brings together hundreds of industry, agency and academia representatives to get the latest information on asphalt pavement design, testing, technology and best practices.Click HERE to view the event website and to register. Returning this year is the popular Equipment Expo, where the latest asphalt pavement-related equipment and technology will be on display. A gala reception on Wednesday evening, which is free to all conference registrants, provides a great way to network and view conference displays in a relaxed setting. The location of the conference is the Doubletree Hotel, 2001 Point West Way in Sacramento.

The keynote speaker for the conference will be Steve Takigawa, Caltrans Deputy Director for Maintenance & Operations, who oversees a $2 billion budget, 8,500 employees and a fleet of more than 10,000 pieces of equipment. Takigawa will provide the latest information on the governor’s “fix it first” initiative, various sustainability activities and innovations being implemented by the department. Gary Richards, transportation writer for the San Jose Mercury News newspaper, also will be a featured speaker.Conference presentations will include best practices in Hot Mix Asphalt design; specifications; testing; paving; future trends; research projects and the status of evaluations. There will be in-depth presentations about the new “Superpave” elements being incorporated into Caltrans projects, sustainability, Crumb Rubber Modifiers (CRM), Reclaimed Asphalt Pavements (RAP), Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS), binder safety, pavement smoothness and the Material Transfer Vehicle (MTV), the latest advances in visibility during night work, Intelligent Compaction for Cold In-place Recycling and Asphalt Rubber Blending.
